Thanks Ed. I've now learned that we recently prohibited open mail relay on the server for security reasons. Prior to this there was not a problem. I'll start researching from this angle. If anybody has a pointer, I will graciously accept it.

Unable to sent the message. Please check the SMTP host name or try again later." The reply remains in my outbox unsent. That is, until I return to the office and sync up my Jornada to my Outlook inbox. It immediately gets sent then. Question: how do I get the reply sent while on the road?
