Try set your SMTP to smtp.mail.yahoo.com. And see if you can relay all
the mail through that.

Thanks Ed. I've now learned that we recently prohibited open mail relay
on the server for security reasons. Prior to this there was not a
problem. I'll start researching from this angle. If anybody has a
pointer, I will graciously accept it.

That would be a question for a MS Active Sync mailing list, I should
think.

Since this is one of the most informative and helpful lists I know, I
pose this question:

At the office, using Exchange Server 5.5 & Outlook 2000. On the road
it's HP Jornada 720 and MS Active Sync. I'm on the road. I dial and
connect to the Exchange Server and sychronize my folders, then
disconnect. I read my email. I reply to a message from an external
address, ie- [EMAIL PROTECTED] This message sits in my Outbox. I dial back
in later and sync my folders. I get "Error sending message. Unable to
sent the message. Please check the SMTP host name or try again later."
The reply remains in my outbox unsent. That is, until I return to the
office and sync up my Jornada to my Outlook inbox. It immediately gets
sent then. Question: how do I get the reply sent while on the road? Or
is it not possible due to Exchange disallowing relaying?
