Hi,

I have been asked to look at putting an exchange server in the DMZ for
the sole purpose of mail routing. I have explored the e2k frontend /
backend topology documents but from what I have read (and please correct
me if I am wrong), the frontend server needs to in the same domain that
the backend server is in... which to me and my colleagues, spells
danger.

Personally I prefer Linux in the DMZ... but since our main skillset is
Windows / Exchange, I am also looking at putting Exchange 2000 in the
DMZ...

Can anyone offer any advice about using a standalone e2k installation in
the DMZ as a simple 'store and forward' (and virus scan) mail server?

We are running a win2k and e2k on the internal network. Access to OWA
isn't a consideration unless there is overwhelming response/reason that
the FE/BE setup is preferred for this scenario..

Thanks in advance,
MP
