John, Have you looked at Q304403 (may or may not help you)? Are there any other errors? DNS is working, right? DNS shows the correct resource records for the new DC right? Have you tried using nltest? If so, did you receive any errors? Have you done a netmon trace of the startup / GC discovery process?

I have set up a second Domain Controller (on a different subnet) to provide redundancy for my Primary DC, but especially to keep Ex2KSP1 operable. I have also marked this DC to be a Catalog Server. However, when I disconnect my original DC from the network, & then attempt to open Outlook on a client, access to the Outlook mailbox is unavailable. Exchange logs the following error; "Event Type: Error Event Source: MSExchangeSA Event Category: NSPI Proxy Event ID: 9057 Date: 22/11/2001 Time: 8:52:48 AM User: N/A Computer: SNAP Description: NSPI Proxy cannot contact any Global Catalog that supports the NSPI Service. New clients will be refused until a Global Catalog is available. After a Domain Controller is promoted to a Global Catalog, it must be rebooted to support MAPI Clients. " I have rebooted the DC several times. Can someone advise me what I am doing wrongly & how I can enable the 'backup' DC to fufill Ex2K's requirements so that clients can use Outlook?
