There's you answer. I "think" the upgrade to 5.5 SP4 would have "reset" the static RPC ports defined previously. You can set this back...but, I would not recommend doing so.
Your best bet is to implement a VPN solution if users wish to access the Exchange Server via the Internet using a "Mapi" based client.
