If the relationship is that bad then how is it that the mothership can still enforce the need for a single email address. That is an example of an enterprise admin saying this is the way it should be. To me that is no different than being part of the same forest/domain.
Next time the mothership decides it wants to enforce something else on this company there is still nothing stopping it anyway by the looks of things. I would recommend either one domain with separate OU's or one accounts domain and a resource domain (for your exchange server) in a separate forest.
