Truth be told, I re-read them more times than I like to admit - it does take a few readings before you get a feel on where within the RFC itself you can find the info you are seeking as well have it make sense in your own mind.

The nuances of SHOULD, SHOULD NOT, MUST, MUST NOT and MAY are something one understands better over time. And there are some portions of various RFCs which are either unimplemented or are intentionally broken because time has proven them to be inadequate, dangerous or otherwise silly.
