Sorry Jeffrey. Didn't completely read your post. As users create new appt requests, then assign the room mbx as a resource, they should see an 'Attendee Availability' tab on the new meeting request. As long as you have free/busy published for this mailbox, users should be able to see when free time is available for the room.
