I know what you think you want, but FAQ Appendix A provides the least risky, easiest method of doing this, with the least impact on your users.
If you don't believe me and insist on doing it the hard way, search TechNet and Google for "forklift upgrade". I want to keep the same name and I don't want to configure it from scratch - AD is holding al of the configuration, I just want to dump it with /disasterrecovery Here is the scenario I had Server 1 and Server 2. Server 2 started freezing for no reason (other than being an HP server). I have moved all users' mailboxes to Server 1. Now Server 2 is ready to be replaced. Of course I can just un-install it and then reinstall from scratch and spend some quality time configuring it. But I want a quicker way. -----Original Message----- From: Ed Crowley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, July 01, 2003 11:59 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: /disasterrecovery on different hardware Trust me. Use FAQ Appendix A. I will be replacing an Exchange 2000 server. It started crashing all the time and it is a discontinued model (HP TC4100). And even if I could get another one like that I would not want an HP. Is there a way to do setup.exe /disasterrecovery on a different hardware? I mean, in order to do /disasterrecovery, I would need to restore System State. But if I do that on different hardware, I will get a BSOD. Are there any workarounds for that? I have heard of one - copying HAL.DLL from old machine, but is it going to create any other problems? Thanks! _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=& lang =english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=& lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=&lang =english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________________ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Web Interface: http://intm-dl.sparklist.com/cgi-bin/lyris.pl?enter=exchange&text_mode=&lang=english To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
