We’re using Archive One formerly of C2C, now owned by Barracuda. We’ve got 8TB of data since 2003/4, licensed for 1000 seats. We use both their Compliance and Policy products.
From an end users perspective it’s pretty tidy. You need to a client installed on each end point, and an expensively licensed additional client to allow laptop users to work off line. Laptops work with the normal client fine, as long as they are connected to the corporate network. Once its working it’s pretty seamless in Outlook, the preview pane shows the first ~1k of text followed by a URL to the server to retrieve the message, if you double click the item and open the full message you get the email as if it wasn’t archived. Attachments work similarly. There is also an independent web front end that we publish vi the intranet that allows searching without outlook. The search function is reliable and fast. From an admin perspective Archive One has always required a fairly regular pair of eyes to make sure it’s ticking over as expected. For example we recently found a whole host of users who’s mail didn’t archive in 2012 for example, no idea why and we’ve since had to re-run their archiving process to catch them up. Service crashes are not uncommon. Although not ideal C2C’s support was excellent, however since Barracuda took over getting decent replies to support queries is more difficult than you’d hope. Recently we’ve been migrating from an old exchange to a new 2010 environment, Support have more than once said to us ‘they don’t understand why its not working’ with regards to issues we have raised with them. Yesterday we were unable to get a technician on the phone at all for a fairly major issue. It’s become apparent that the C2C support team have all been made redundant and support has been folded into Barracuda’s existing infrastructure, meaning that all the detailed product knowledge has gone too.
