The documentation is wrong (specifically Example 1). I'll raise it to the attention of the proper parties. Dismount-Database is, indeed, the cmdlet to use.

However, I've never had any trouble dismounting a database that has active users in it with the dismount-database cmdlet. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen little errors in documentation. :) Though maybe someone smarter than me can give a better explanation. If you're saving a script to do it, you need to make sure you also include the -confirm:$false switch the dismount-database command line.. Otherwise the script will pause waiting for someone to confirm the dismount action.
