(the registry hack basically makes the Outlook 2007 and 2010 clients behave 
like Outlook 2003 clients)

The official word is that this is a bug in Outlook 2010, but might require 
fixes to both Outlook and Exchange to resolve.
 
I'll post back if there are further developments.
