If your baggage is not checked through you MUST CLEAR CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION. DO NOT USE THE TRANSFER DESK. Once you have cleared you will recheck your baggage and clear customs again to exit Russia. If you use the transfer desk your bags will remain in Russia and be held by customs.

We had a student have this problem before.

David,

Moldova is not Russia, there should be the way to change the flights avoiding the immigration procedures. AFAIR after I got into the Domodedovo airport building after landing pretty many times, there was the clear sign “TRANSFER” and the stand with the transfer manage r who is to be contacted on this matter. The crew also warns the con nection passengers to use transfer agent before landing.

Anyway, if the flight from US lands at Domodedovo, have a look at

Your first point of arrival in Russia you go through customs and immigration because it's your point of entry. The same thing happens when you go to the U.S....when I fly to another destination in the U.S. after arriving in New York, I have to collect my luggage, go through immigration, etc. and check my baggage back onto the next flight. I've even had to do this flying on the same plane (Moscow- Washington via NY), I had to go through all the immigration and baggage stuff just to reboard the same plane I was on that was destined for DC.

I work with lots of camera crews who must do the same thing...their equipment is all checked in through Moscow, registered and stamped, then we haul it all onto the next flight, checking in again.

This is not unusual in any country.

Тема: Expat List Question about international transfer at Domodedovo

Hello,

I am taking a United flight from New York to Moscow and then changing to S7 airlines to go to Moldova. Since they are two different airlines, my baggage will not be checked through to Moldova — I will have to pick it up in Moscow. Is there any way to d o this at Domodedovo airport without going through immigration? On t he airport's website, this is all the information provided:" Any lug gage checked through to the final destination at the departure airpo rt will be processed automatically. If your luggage is checked to Do modedovo, please notify the transfer agent."

I am wondering if "notify the transfer agent" means this is possible.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

Jessica
