I'm also new. Five weeks today! My work opened a "salary account" at Citibank. Apparently a lot of people also open another account somewhere (or several), but Citi seems ok so far. Colleagues complain about the web site, but it seems ok to me. It works in English. I've already set up several payees and paid my rent and internet from it, no problems. ATMs are easy to find (in particular, in the lobby at work, so there's that...)
At the moment the only thing that will make me open an account elsewhere is if another bank has significantly less than 1% fee on international transfers in the $5k - $10k range.
