The reason that people open up several accounts is because the level of 
protection that you get on you money here in Russia is 1.4 million Rubles. That 
is not so good when you compare it to most other countries.

There are many ways of moving your money into better locations or making it 
work harder for you. I mostly help Russians with this as many people in my 
industry (financial services) harass expats. So it is my policy to only deal 
with expats who come to me through recommendation.

If you want some help or some names of financial services companies let me 
know, although I sure that most of you will have heard about some of them even 
if you have only been here a few weeks.
