[expert] misc directory on the cd/ftp site

Can anyone tell me what the misc directory holds? 

The only program I ever use from it is genhdlst when I download an updated
package to my local mirror, but there is a lot more stuff there, and I'm
trying to save a little space and bandwidth.

Are the object files (.o) are useful for *anything*?
