Hi folks,
Just wanted to tell that ALL problems are solved here.
The new boot-1805.img from Chmouel did the trick. I can install
M6, make a bootdisk and install LILO. Great. Thanks Chmouel and
thanks Jacques for the hint.

Now I have M5.3 on hda2 and M6 on hda3. LILO (from lilo.conf in
M5.3) is in MBR of hda. lilo.conf (2nd) section reads:
other=/dev/hda3
label=6
table=/dev/hda
LILO (from lilo.conf in M6) is in bootrecord of hda3 and it
reads:
boot=/dev/hda3
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=0
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.2.9-19mdk
label=linux
root=/dev/hda3
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.2.9-19mdk.img
read-only
This way on startup I can choose to boot M5.3 (still the working
platform) or M6 (to look at it in amazement while chanting hymns
about the makers of M6)
;-))
