I don't have access to a BBS, but the problem seems to have been fixed
by changing connection speed from the default of 57600 to 115200 in kpp.
it's quite strange that only receiving bandwidth would be affected by
this.
Thanks for your help anyway. Now I have even less reason to use windows
;-)
