First check famous : http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/
I have done installation of LM 6.0 to one of the latest Toshiba Notebook
(Ultra thin type: Dynabook portege SS3300CT). I have documented the process
in my home page, which is also linked from above site. (See:
http://home.pacbell.net/aoki/ This is mostly in English for Linux topics.)
In short, following thing have to be checked for newer notebook system.
Chip set used for display. Many new systems are Neomagic ones and if so you
are OK. Otherwise, you should still be more likely to be OK.
If you have supported PCMCIA SCSI card with CD-ROM, it's good but do not
spend money on it.
Go get cheep PCMCIA NIC (do not get new fast ethernet like I have, NE2000
compatible), find Linux running desktop PC and connect them (FTP). Follow
remote installation process (See my home page if you.
For minor problem like I experienced (Freezed keyboard upon standard
booting), use your skill to evade it.
It looks like any modern note PC with 586 or better should be able to get LM
6.0 running. Good luck.
PS: I had bad luck with my old IBM TP230Cs which crashed with LM 6.0 while it
was OK with RH 6.0. It's 486 system and may be that was the problem.
