SuSE definitely has the better install problem. Much more user friendly than
Red Hat/Mandrake.
YaST is okay for somethings but doesn't work well for others. For example, I
could never get YaST to set up printing to a printer on my Windows box via
Samba. I was able to use the Printer Configurator to set it up in 2 minutes.
The big reason I tried Mandrake was becase SuSE wouldn't load my network card
modules right. I have a 3c509 and an SMC card (rtl8139). I had them both listed
correctly in /etc/conf.modules but Suse would only load one module. Mandrake
didn't have a problem with that at all. I think the problem is in one of the
init scripts but I couldn't find where it loaded the modules. I posted a
message to the SuSE email list twice but never got any help. That was quite
frustrating considering that 50% of the posts on that list are off-topic but
get at least one answer.
So, I'm really distro neutral. Mandrake does what I need it to right now so
I'll stick with it until it doesn't.
