Greetings Francois,
Here is how my wife's company (SoftCare Consulting) wants to be using Linux
Mandrake:
notebooks running Linux Mandrake and Windows98 (dual boot and VMware) with
iBCS supporting the SCO version of the Progress database and DIBOL compiler.
SoftCare Consulting specializes in supporting DIBOL-based accounting
packages and PROGRESS database applications. Their clients tend to be small
businesses with IBM AIX or SCO servers with little or no external
communications. The notebooks are much faster than the client systems and
allow the consultants to take the work with them. Also impresses the
clients to see a notebook speed through their overnight jobs in minutes, and
to learn how much cheaper the Linux solution was than their AIX and SCO.
They WANT to do this but have run into:
Dell Inspiron 7000 has ATI Rage Pro LT or Mobility-P video not supported by
XFree86
There is a patched 2.2.10-ac10 kernel and Mach64 driver for this problem
(and supports VMware), but not an iBCS module. I hope to get the source for
the fixes and start building a complete system this week or next.
