The vmware folks have taken the XFree86 server 3.3.1 and patched it
under the GNU license.
Their patches to that server should be showing up in the latest version
of XFree86, the 3.3.4 server which has just been released. The code they
put on their web site requires linux as the operating system. It is not
their X server, it is Xfree with a patch.
The patch takes care of possible losses of keyboard/mouse inputs when
switching display modes on guest operating systems.
