Right...same here...I just wanted to get the upgraded
kernel. Besides...having a hybrid IDE/SCSI system here, I
was experiencing a problem scanning /dev/hda on boot up
(actually the system HARD-LOCKED while scanning that hard
drive!)
I'm trying a different IDE hard drive, in hopes that I just
had a bad hard drive, or one that Mandrake didn't like....
the ONLY reason I've got an IDE in there at all is so that
I don't have to recompile the kernel so that it can boot
off of SCSI. ;-) (A friend of mine who's more knowledgeable
about Linux says SCSI support is modular, so you have to
boot from IDE.)
Fortunately, the Mandrake guys were kind enough to give me
the information I needed on which files to update and in
which order... Thanks, Mandrakesoft, especially Axalon and
BeRo!
