I've had the same problem yesterday with Mandrake 6.1 Helios. When I logged
in with another user, all was fine.
I made a copy of the home dir of the user for wich KDE wasn'nt working
anymore, and emptied the original homedir, deleting ALL that was in it.
Logged out of KDE and logged in again with the original user and... KDE
recreated the desktop icons (thus the desktop dir in the home dir) and all
was fine again.
