As a matter of fact, when I setup my cable modem with @home, I was not
required to use DHCP. They tell you you need it, but the tech who installed
my modem said the use of DHCP was irrelevant, and told me to set a static
IP. This is due to the fact that they re-lease the same IP address back to
you every week. I know some other companies, like Time-Warner, actually
rotate IPs and randomly re-assign them to subscribers; this is not the case
with @home (at least not here in San Diego with Cox cable). To summarize,
you need to set the following:

--Set your host name to the CXxxxxxxxx computer name provided by @home
--Set your default gateway to the router IP assigned to you
--Set the provided DNS server IPs
--Set your domain to the Domain provided by @home.

An easy way to do this is to open Control Panel, and select the Network
applet.

Under 'Names', I have 'Hostname'=localhost.localdomain, Domain=<my @home
domain name>, Nameservers=<each name server address, listed on separate
lines>
Under 'Hosts', add two IP entries: "127.0.0.1 localhost
localhost.localdomain", and "<your @home IP address> <your @home
Computer Name>"
Under 'Interfaces', make sure 'eth0' exists, with your assigned IP address,
the correct net mask, and both 'Activate at boot time...' and 'Allow any
user....' selected. Interface configuration protocol='none'
Under 'Routing', set 'Default Gateway' to your @home router IP, 'Default
Gateway device'=eth0, and most importantly, define at default route: click
'Add', set your network to the network address of your router IP (like
24.8.174.0), set the net mask (like 255.255.255.0), and your Gateway to the
router IP.

That's it. You may need to down your eth0 interface and bring it back up
(see ifconfig, or reboot). try pinging a known address, or try 'nslookup
www.linux-mandrake.com'. If it comes back with an IP, you are up and
running. Good luck, hope this helps.
