Hi,
At first it didn't work for me after following Steve's suggestion.
Then, when I checked in /dev/ I noticed that xconsole is owned by root.
So, in my case, the obvious solution is either to run the xconsole as
root or change the ownership. The second method didn't work for me, but
the first worked fine.
When your xconsole starts up, did you see a message like "xconsole can't
start". I know it's a contradiction, but it actually starts up but you
get no messages after that regardless of whether you are being
portscanned, etc.
Sergio,
it doesn't monitor net traffic per se, but you actually get notified
when you are being scanned, or if somebody ftp's to you. It would be
great though if the output includes a real net traffic monitor.
Thanks Steve. I get a real kick out of all this as my notebook is
running Linux, while my front-end here is a Sun dual-Ultra2 running
Solaris. Now, I have a Solaris-like within a Sun!! Cheap thrill, I know
;-)
