Hi Axalon, thank you for prompt responce.

Sorry my stupidity/ignorancy/sheer lunacy/whatever,
but do I (or should I) have a new hostname when ppp connection established?
What is this name? What part of software and when sets it?

I remember that when I got PPP connection as done in /etc/ppp/ppp-on example
script, 'hostname' returned the same "localhost.localdomain" even after
the connection comes up. I'll check it again.

If something indeed changes the hostname, it would be even more strange,
since my own attempt to do this by hand, e.g.

echo hostname mail.inter.net.il" >> /etc/ppp/ip-up.local

just broke X11 authorization mechanism - no new X apps, kfm could not
open browser widget, and the like.

Tima.
