Dear friends:
I just installed Sun's StarOffice 5.1a. This gave me an opportunity to
install Java. However, SO refused to recognize my present Java RunTime
Environment as the right one:
[sher@adsl-77-232-189 sher]$ rpm -q jre
jre-1.1.6_v5-2glibc
Question: What version will it accept if any? If it wants a later
version, can I install it ALONGSIDE the one above, that is, can I have
two versions of JRE installed?
The reason is that I use a special, dynamic web browser called Netomat
(http://www.netomat.net) available for UNIX/LINUX (highly recommend you
try it out for the sheer fun of it -- it's free), and it says it
requires jre 1.1.6 or above but, in fact, will not accept jre-1.1.7 or
above. So, I am in a quandary.
I would like to keep Netomat, but, if (and that's a big IF -- from what
I've heard on the list) and only if Java does work in SO, which version
do I need to download and where should I put, assuming, of course, that
I can have two jre's on my system.
Thank you so very much.
Benjamin
