Hi folks;
I wrote Friday for the exact same thing, the XFS has died.
Upon turning my machine on this morning I was greeted by the same
bullshit error message...twice in one week now.
"FontTrans SocketUnix Connect: can't connect: errno11
falied to set default font path.
Fatal server error: could not open default font 'fixed'"
When I type the following..
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs status
it returns the following..
xfs dead but subsys lockd
or something along them lines...
If I try this..
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs start
I get "Font Server Started [ok]"
then check status again..same message.
xfs dead but subsys lockd
If I try "stop"
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs stop
it will complain that it can not shut do the Font Server...yet status
returns.
xfs stopped
now restart...xfs and try "startx" ...it bombs as usual.
Upon looking in /var/log/messages as Axalon suggested...you see the
following..
xfs: xfs startup successful
xfs: fatal font server error
xfs: can not establish any listening sockets
So "restarting" is not helping as one had suggested, stopping and
restarting has no effect either.
Upon my journeys of "reconfiguring" my dead box of Friday, this weekend
I came across many people with the same scenario, and if I recall on
Friday there was another person asking on the list how to fix this
"xfs" bullshit.
So it appears that 7.0 has some troubles with XFS.
Any ideas Axalon...anyone..??
If I reinstall again on this machine I won't bother with 7.0 Air...who
needs to have XFS die every day or two.
