It's similar to dialup in that the line to the terminal/hub/router/switch
or what ever "head end" they  plug you into is not shared. The dsl users
useing pppoe it'sd exactly like dialup but faster of course. For those not
useing it, it is a matter of how lazy the admin is and what equipment they
have to work with (you won't see many with a hw limit, all the new stuff
has nice filters).
