Hello Alan,
Just for general information I got into this Linux business
with a purchase of Macmillian's "Deluxe" version which contained
both StarOffice 5.1a, and Wordperfect 8 Lite, along with a small
version of PartitionMagic and BootMagic. I went "whole hog" and
am enjoying myself greatly! Then only time consuming part was
getting my Hewlett Packard Pavilion 6540C video setup to work.
I spent almost a week learning about "make", gcc, egcs, and other
cyptic phrases! But finally got the two rpms I downloaded to function
my motherboard has an Intel i810 chipset. I bought a new 3Com
external modem, which functions very well. I've been on the look
out for a driver for the audio half of my modem/audio card, but
may wind up buying another soundblaster card. I have two already
but they are ISA and this "modern" computer only has PCI slots!
GRRR! Man what an education!
