I'm not trying to sound cynical...but
Have you read the manual that came with your modem? My 3COM/USR 56K Courier
modem let's me talk to the modem via AT commands using a terminal. I
haven't adjusted my modem, so I can't be certain whether there is an option
to answer in V.90 by default.
