Thanks to everyone for your help. I have finally got the system
booted properly on the smp kernel. (I never did work how why
some of the errors occured...)
Can anyone explain, though, why it would have installed the non-smp
kernel automatically on my dual-processor machine and the smp kernel
on my single-processor machine?
