[expert] external dsl modem (Westel)

I have a client who would like to install an external dsl modem on his
Linux system and seem to be having one devil of a time getting this
thing to work. I s anyone on the list currently using adsl with an
external modem under Linux-Mandrake, and might anyone have some
information as to how to set this up? pppoe calls a script
/usr/sbin/adsl-start which doesnot seemed to be installed and for the
life of me I can seem to find it. Ideas anyone ?
