What kind of external DSL modem? I'm using a 3COM Home Connect ADSL
Ethernet modem... plugs into my ethernet card and I don't use pppoe or
anything funky like that. My ISP gave me a gateway IP address and I use
that, just as one would with a cable modem. Maybe you're making it more
difficult than it needs to be and he doesn't need to use pppoe?
