If you have gotten this far then no need to worry! all you need to do is
configure X!

when you upgrade from 7.0 to 7.1, Mandrake keeps u're old X config file in
.old or something. The X config file resides in /etc/X11 directory and its
name is XF886Config. Thus, u're old file shld have a name XF86Config.old

As long as you installed 7.1 only once, the .old will indeed be u're
previous file.. else bad luck.

In any case, just copy your XF86Config.old to XF86Config in the same
directory and run "startx".. if X comes up, thank me :)

else,

don't just try Xconfigurator.. try XF86Setup and good old xf86config. The
XF86Config file is pretty straight forward actually!.. play with the above
tools and if nothign works, then mail u're XF86Config file and i'll try to
decipher it for you :)
