Lets see your dmesg output

Gigabyte boards with ALi chip sets and certain CDs seem to have a difficulty.
Also some drive combinations on the same channel.

If md5sum worked, then you have a good copy of mandrake71-inst.iso and
mandrake71-ext.iso

ANOTHER trick is to tell install you do  NOT have ext and finish your install
without it, then go back afterward and use rpm to take any packages from -ext.

But let's see dmesg  -- I might recognize something I have already helped
someone else with.
