This might or might not help I'm not sure.  But does anyone know how to do 
a hdd install?  Maybe if you partition off a 650 meg piece of the 
drive.  Put the Mandrake distro on this portion, you can install from 
there.  I'm not sure on the location of the HowTo on this but I'm sure 
someone will know.  I've seen it done at an install-a-thon for some 
notebooks so it should work on a desktop.
