All of the KDE packages I've seen are relocatable.  You can do rpm --install
<something>.rpm --prefix=/opt/kde2 and it will do what you want.

Last I checked, there were still one or 2 files that conflicted (in /etc)
but I moved them out of the way manually and then forced the RPM install,
and all went fine.
