Go to Edit, Preferences in Kdat and enter you tape drive name. Mine is /dev/tape. FYI, your tape drive will whir the tape everytime the SCSI bus is reset and everytime you insert a tape. A SCSI reset happens when you boot up. This doesn't mean that the OS is doing anything, it's a hardware function.
