Peculiar new problem's just come up. I'm running 7.1 w/helix-gnome & alsa-0.5.7-4mdk and have had no problems to speak of. All of a sudden, if I re-boot alsamixer goes back to the default (and a rather strange default imo) muted state. Same with aumix, despite the perfectly valid ~.aumixrc file. I've rerun alsactl to generate the sound.conf file a couple of times. Moreover, the sound is likely to just stop, causing me to reopen aumix, load the rc file again. Or, reopen alsamixer & readjust the levels. My system's a 900mhz thunderbird with the via ac97 (snd-card-via686a kernel module). Any clues on this would be appreciated. I've done a good bit of google-ing & deja-ing, looked at the alsa archives, but haven't run across a similar situation yet.
