Oh yes, if you wish to run an e mail, or web server
or both, you must register a domain name and
have a static ip address.

One must also be sure that the hostname
of your machine matches that of the domain name.

I have heard alot of boogering about on
postfix and sendmail, I personally prefer
sendmail because it puts the mails
where they belong in /var/spool/mail/username
instead of off in some stupid other file
where pine and other mailers can't find it.

I would try to make all speed to get your
domain name registered as quickly as you
can, before some boogerface bogarts it,
unless the domain name is so unusual that
no Bob Normal would ever think of it,
if this is the case you are safe.
