Hello again. I have been trying to run MandrakeUpdate from a terminal
window. I never get any message to indicate a problem. As for
.xsession-errors, the last entries, after trying MandrakeUpdate twice in a
row and then looking are:

KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Major opcode: 14
KDE detected X Error: BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter) 9
  Major opcode: 14

I ASSUME these relate to MandrakeUpdate though I cannot be sure. There is
nothing explicitly indicating this anywhere in the file. There is never
anything in /var/log/messages either.
