I find it strange that you're not getting any console output at all. I believe a number of X errors can generate the above .xsession-errors messages. ie trying to generate pixmaps into already invalid window states. That could possibly mean that X is attempting to draw a window for MandrakeUpdate but the window is closing before you can really see it. Have you changed your color-depth since the last time you tried to run it? What color depth are you running now? Also, is netscape or Mozilla running while you're experimenting with this? If you're bored, switch to a color depth of 8-bit & try running update 1st & alone.
