After using LM7.1 for quite a while with no problems, I upgraded to 7.2. After reading some docs, I setup XFree86-3.3.6 with hardware acceleration for my ATI Expert@Play video card. Everything seemed to be working smoothly until. . . I had just told my wife how we need to totally take off windows from the computer. My kid was complaining about windows totally locking up on her yet again. So I tell my wife, ``Now, see, that's one example right there. Linux just doesn't lock up like windows.'' So, about five minutes later, I look over at the computer and notice nothing on the monitor (it has a green light; I always disable dpms), mouse & keybd don't respond. The last thing I had done was let xlockmore run in random screensaver mode. I had to reboot the computer to bring it back. So, to make a long story even longer, I'm thinking one of the OpenGL screensavers somehow caused my PC to lock up. Has anyone heard of such a problem with Mesa, XFree86-3.3.6's accel for Mach64, or xlockmore's OpenGL goodies? I have seen a problem with one of KDE 2.0's OpenGL screensavers (space, I believe), but only X had to be restarted so I assumed that's not related to this other problem. Because of a few other slight problems with 7.2, I've been thinking about returning to 7.1 and I'd like to have hardware accel for my video card---unless that's the root of the lockup I had with 7.2. Thanks very much for any help with this. ---Norvell Spearman
