Current AMD chips do not have thermal overload protection. This means that
they can self-destruct, partially or fully, by overheating.
Socket 370 fans are set for proper tension on somewhat thinner platforms and
have been known (personally, unfortunately) to crush socket A processors.
Furthermore, the fan vibration is not completely damped by the rubber bumpers
on the package top, so there is wear on the glass top of the chip. THis can
become a critical problem (again, much to my chagrin).
Make sure the heat sink offers a soft bottom (copper plus thermal paste) to
the CPU and make sure it is approved by AMD for Socket A processors.
And probably you need a new processor.
