Can you define "MUCH BETTER"?  Do you mean the transfer rate is faster
or that they work better with Linux for some reason?  If the former,
in my experience this hardly matters.

The difference is that USB scanners aren't "older" and cost at least
$50 less than this.  On the other hand, if you know something about
compatibility with Linux, could you please elaborate?

This is certainly true and I don't blame SANE for not working hard to
support them.

Specs?  This sounds like transfer rates.  Head scan times are so long
that it hardly matters for most stuff.
