There's a recycled pieces-parts place here in Phx that had (yesterday, anyway)
a usb card for sale. No warranty of any kind (other than ownership ;-),
but for $5 plus shipping I'd be happy to go pick it up for ya. I *think*
it was made by compaq, but I could be wrong. (They also sometimes have
scsi cards, same price, same warranty. I just picked up 2 eisa scsi
cards, one Adaptec, one DPT which I hope to get to work on my linux
scsi server...)

On the scsi/usb/parallel stuff - I have 2 scsi scanners at home, one is
hooked up to my wife's windows machine and works pretty well, only minor
pauses of the scan during data transfer to the pc.

The other scanner I've not gotten around to hooking up yet. Real Soon Now I
will hook it to one of my linux boxes (along with a switch of my Canon BJC6000
with my wife's Epson Stylus color, since I cannot seem to get the canon to
work under LM7.2 and Cups - it seems to move the head around when printing,
but nothing comes out!)...

Anyway, I've not used USB scanner yet, but I did use a parallel port scanner
once, and I'd have to disagree with the comment about speed of interface
not mattering - unless you don't care if the scan takes 2x as long, of course.
Now for USB vs SCSI maybe the difference is smaller, but in my experience
the parallel port scanner took around twice as long as the scsi scanner
did. (Maybe even longer, but I'm trying to be generous ;-)

I remember seeing parallel port scanners that apparently used some kind of
scsi command set? Perhaps the SANE folks would have a chance to get those
to work....

enough rambling, off to other things ;-)
