Well, sometimes the processes are in use by other users

be root

try 

fuser -k -9 /mnt/zip

then try to kill the processes

Or -- you can always kill them (and everything else except those processes 
that support the instruction) with

killall5

Of course the next move is likely the reset switch if you do that.
