I am receiving the same error, The smb.conf file that I originally had
when running 7.2 had no problems, but now, in 8.0, I see nothing but
problems...

I had to scrap that file, and create a new one with a few extra options,
and I still get that error when attempting to connect with Win98, winNT,
and win2k.

you'll find that you can also select START---RUN---\\linuxbox\ and then
enter in username and password for root and you will have access to the
shares (might want to try that in win2k).

Please let me know if someone gets back to you personally with a fix for
this.. I have been searching for assistance with this for a while now.

Thanks
